HALL OF FAME AWARD -
Clarence Denny
The Ontario Motor Coach Association Hall of Fame Award is given
to an operator for significant constributions to the industry.
What
keeps an 85 year old man coming to work every day? Well, you would have
to ask Clarence Denny — he is here with us tonight.
Clarence came from humble beginnings, born on the family's homestead in
Acton, Clarence wanted wheels before he could drive, and he has had them
ever since —
in fact, many of them. Clarence built the company from scratch when he
inherited a 1954 black dodge from his Father, and transported five
students to four local schools, and often said "if the dog wanted to go,
he would take the dog too!" Two years later, Clarence purchased his
first two school buses. Slowly adding more school buses and routes as
the years passed. In 1978 expanding once again, Clarence purchased his
first Motor Coach and started operating local tours, increasing vehicles
and licenses extending into the United States and across Canada.
Today, the company is a third generation company operating approximately
eighty vehicles from its Acton location, employing approximately one
hundred employees.
Clarence continues his role as President and enjoys listening in on the
day to day operation, with a few words of advice on how to fix a
problem. There are many stories about Clarence from the students he
transported, his friends in the bus industry and at OMCA. His employees
some of them for more than thirty years claim that no two days are ever
the same when Clarence is in the office.
